Birthday Weekend

Yesterday was a good day. Not only was it my birthday, which was extra special because mom, dad, and Fay came down, but also because we finally moved into our new apartment! At first it had that "new apartment" smell, but now it smells like apples and cinnamon (an air freshner). I'll try to put some pics up soon. Here's a general description of the apartment for now. When you walk in the front door, the living room is right there. There's a green suede sofa and chair with an entertainment center, a coffee table, and a small end table. The kitchen is attached to the living room by a bar with four bar stools. The kitchen has a fridge, a stove, an oven, cabinets and a few shelves. There's some storage, but I wish there was more. The first room down the hall is mine, then Sarah's, Sam's (we don't know if she's going to move in yet), and then Kyla's. All the bedrooms have a bed frame with a mattress, a desk, a closet, a set of drawers, and of course a window. At the end of the hall is a storage closet, a shower room, a big vanity-type counter, and a bathroom.

We (Sarah, Kyla, and I) decided to make dinner last night. We made a pork raost with celery and carrots cooked in cream of celery soup with a packet of onion soup and a little bit of water, salad (provided by Sarah's mom Carol), baked potaotes and condiments (provided by Kyla's family), fruit salad (fixed by Fay), gingerbread pumpkin cake (baked by mom), and Cookies 'N' Cream ice cream (from Walmart). It was all really, really good although I did miss the traditional spice cake. Now we have lots of leftovers for lunches and dinners.

That's all the new news from the valley for now.

Just Another Update

Last weekend was a nice change of scenery. Friday night, I drove to the Relief Sale over in Rocky Ford. I stayed with mom and dad in the camper Friday night and ran/walked the 5K with mom Saturday morning. It was really nice to see family and friends again and getting a change of scenery.

This past week was better than some of the previous weeks. Hopefully I can finish out this semester without too many more problems. At this point, my mentality is if I can make it through this semester, I can survive the next two and a half years of college.

I got good news yesterday. One of my roommates talked with the director of housing and he said that we will be in our new apartment by the end of next week! This is the real deal. How do we know? Bruce said he will be sending out a letter and give us a call on Monday. So that means we'll probably be moving in Thursday or Friday! That also means that pictures will finally be coming. It may be a couple weeks, but I will post pics as soon as I can.

This week has been an emotional rollercoaster. Most of this week I spend feeling a little depressed - like I couldn't do anything right. This was mostly because of work and my supervisor (Leah) being a complete jerk about little things. I guess I was supposed to go in last weekend and work on making media for the micro biology labs this week, but I was never informed of this until I got to work on Monday and my supervisor seemed a little angry that none of the media had been made. How can I do something when I don't know I'm supposed to do it? Tuesday I got repremanded bacause I didn't have time to pour some media in Petri dishes to make plates and put some test tubes on a special rack to make slants. Leah went off and said she is supposed to work in the chemistry department in the afternoons rather than pour media. Her job is to help the lab prep people when we need it. All she does is sit in front of a computer all day. Amber and I both are a little ticked off at the way Leah has been treating us and how hard she's been on us this past week. I'm only supposed to work 9 hrs./week. This week I put in 12.75 hours. I hope Leah is eaiser on us next week. I'm (hopefully) going to be working in the bookstore next semester - I won't have to put up with this and I'll have a schedule that is much more predictable than the work schedule I have now.

I ran a 5K last weekend for Homecoming and it took me 47 minutes. I felt a lot better - I wasn't as stressed as before when I finished. I'm running one again this weekend at the Relief Sale.

That's all.

Time to vent a little

This week has not been as crazy as some of the weeks past. Only on e test this past week and it was an easy test - theatre. I got an A on it. I also got an A on my music test and a B on my cell bio test. So far, so good.

I really like living in an apartment compared to the dorms. I just wish we were in the apartment we were promised. They're almost (hopefully) done. This week they installed more glass in our living room. That's a good sign, I guess. But I'm not going to get my hopes up - I've learned not to the past two months. Also, it would be nice if I could talk to the director of housing (Bruce) instead of leaving polite messages and not having them returned. I couldn't get ahold of him yesterday, so I'm going to go into the housing office on Monday and talk to him in person. All I want is to get an update on the progress of our apartment and the projected move-in date. I'm really starting to hate this stupid contractor. Everytime I pass by the new apartments, I see the lazy workers sitting on their butts and not doing any work. It makes me so mad that they're getting paid to sit and do nothing. GRRRRR!!! Im pretty sure the receptionists in the housing office are sick of me calling, BUT I JUST WANT SOME ANSWERS!!!!! The other thing that's making me mad is the fact that whenever I call to ask about the progress fo our apartment, the receptionists always say, "I don't know. I just call you when I'm told to. I tell you what I know." or "That's a question for Bruce." Doesn't that seem a little unprofessional? I think so. Wouldn't you want to tell the people who deal with students more than the director of housing to be able to answer simple questions like "When will be able to move in?" or "What is the status of the apartment?" GRRRRR!!! I'm losing my patience. I'm trying to keep my cool, but it's a losing battle.
